89 TRAVELLERS ARRESTED IN THAI BAR RAID

-

Thai police arrested 109 people this week after raiding an illegal bar party on the popular backpacking island of Koh Phangnan — known for raucous full-moon parties, which have not been permitted since the beginning of the pandemic. Eighty-nine of the arrested were visitors from 10 countries, according to the Associated Press. The partygoers received suspended one-month jail terms, which will not apply if they exhibit good behaviour for one year, and us$130 fines. All arrested tested negative afterwards. The bar had promoted its five-year birthday party on its social media channels, which is how police learned of it, the Bangkok Post said. The bar apologized on Facebook, saying the owner believed the party was permitted because of low area case counts
