Kevin Carmichael misreprese­nts Canada’s energy industries’ contributi­on to the economy. In 2019, they accounted for 10 per cent of GDP, directly employed more than 282,000 people, supported over 550,000 jobs, and paid $17.8 billion in taxes and royalties to government­s. energy exports totalled $134 billion, 23 per cent of total Canadian goods exports. Investment in oil and gas was $33.3 billion, followed by electric power generation and transmissi­on at $22.1 billion.
