Time for Energy East

-

Re: Line 5 closing would be devastating, Erin O’toole, Feb. 3

erin O’toole’s column on Line 5 ought to be terrifying to residents of Ontario and Quebec. If Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer cancels the route across the Straits of Mackinac, how will we receive fuel for autos and home heating, for instance? railways? A possible Lac-mégantic redux? Also, the costs will soar.

It is now obvious that what we need pronto is the approval of energy east to control our own destiny. Previously Quebec rejected it with Justin Trudeau’s approval. Is Trudeau the prime minister of Quebec — or all of the provinces of Canada? unwittingly, the end of Line 5 would also mean the end of Line 7 to Quebec and its source of oil and gas. Trudeau likes to chase windmills, but fossil fuels are here to stay for a few years yet. Stephen Head, Cobourg, Ont.
