February 8, 1924 – The Toronto Granite Hockey Club won Canada’s second consecutive Olympic gold medal in ice hockey, beating the American team 6-1. The ferocity of play was evidenced by the injuries sustained by players like Canada’s Harry Watson, who was knocked out cold in the first twenty seconds but went on to score two goals later in the game. The very first Olympic gold in ice hockey was won in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1920 by the Winnipeg Falcons.
