Terrifying possibilities

-

Re: Canada’s worst government ever, Rex Murphy; and Time for Energy East, Letter to the editor, both Feb. 6

There was a time when a mid-winter Saturday night fireside read of the National Post on the state of Canada, was a renewing and relaxing experience. Not so much now! Rex Murphy’s column about “Canada’s worst government ever” and the sideby-side letter to the editor about the possible closure of Line 5, which supplies fuel to Ontario and Quebec, made for downright terrifying possibilities.

After watching our federal government botch the vaccine issue, part ways with the governor general and demonstrate other ineptitudes, one can have little comfort that these bumblers could safely carry us through a new crisis on fuel shortages, should one emerge. The old-fashioned idea that Canada is simply made up of hewers of wood and drawers of water, may become our new reality once again.
