February 16, 1970 – The Grey Cup trophy, stolen in December 1969 from the offices of the champion Ottawa Rough Riders, was returned to the Canadian Football League headquarte­rs. With little fanfare, police had recovered the cup from a locker in Toronto’s Royal York Hotel after receiving an anonymous tip. Unwilling to pay the thieves the ransom they were demanding, the CFL planned to make a replica trophy if the cup was not recovered.
