U.S. ‘OUTRAGED’ AFTER ROCKET ATTACK ON BASE

-

A rocket attack on a u.s. base in northern Iraq has killed a contractor and wounded eight people including a serviceman, increasing pressure on u.s. President Joe biden as he considers a return to the Iran nuclear deal.

Antony blinken, pictured, the secretary of state, said he was “outraged” by Monday’s attack on the base at erbil international airport.

The attack was claimed by a little-known group said to be a front for an established Iran-backed Iraqi militia that is part of the Iraqi government but opposed to the u.s. presence in Iraq.

Since biden’s election, Iran has been hoping for relief from sanctions introduced by donald Trump after he withdrew from the nuclear deal with Iran in 2018.

Iran has since reduced its compliance with the deal to limit its nuclear activities. but last month blinken said Iran must resume compliance before the u.s. will honour its commitments or lift sanctions.
