ON THIS DAY

February 17, 1938 – Acclaimed stage actor Martha Henry was born at Detroit, Michigan. Since her auspicious debut at Stratford as Miranda in The Tempest in 1962, Henry has played most of Shakespeare’s major female roles, while her important nonshakespearean roles at Stratford have included Sister Jeanne in John Whiting’s The Devils, Mrs. Proctor in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible and Olga in Anton Chekhov’s The Three Sisters.
