BRAZIL BLANKS CANADA ON PITCH

-

The Canadian women’s national soccer team has a new head coach, but they’re still plagued by the same old issue heading toward the Tokyo Olympics. Scoring is still a struggle for Canada, who lost 2-0 to Brazil in their final game at the Shebelieves Cup in Orlando, Fla. It was the second time in three games that Canada was shut out at the tournament and the fourth time in their past six outings. Debinha (Debora Cristiane de Oliveira) and Julia Bianchi scored first-half goals for Brazil, who finished second in the four-team tournament behind the United States. Canada finished third, ahead of Argentina. “In the first half, we can’t start games against Brazil like that,” said Canadian head coach Bev Priestman. Canada went into the tournament missing several key players, including all-time leading international goal scorer Christine Sinclair.
