ON THIS DAY
April 20, 1963
An explosion at the Canadian Army recruitment centre in Montréal killed 65-year old Wilfred O’neil. The Front de libération du Québec claimed responsibility for the attack. Several more bombs were set off in the coming months. The FLQ conflict culminated in the October Crisis of 1970, when a British diplomat was kidnapped and Québec Minister Pierre Laporte was killed.
