JOHN CAMERON MITCHELL CAST AS JAILED JOE EXOTIC

John Cameron Mitchell will play zoo owner Joe Exotic in the upcoming limited series about him that co-stars Kate Mckinnon as Exotic’s rival, Carole Baskin. Mitchell, shown, is known for co-creating the Broadway musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Exotic, born Joseph Schreibvogel, is in jail for plotting to kill Baskin. The series is based on the podcast Joe Exotic: Tiger King, which was reworked into the Netflix docuseries Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness and released last year. Over 34 million U.S. viewers watched the Netflix series within the first 10 days of its release. Now under development with the working title Joe Exotic, the show starring Mitchell and Mckinnon will air on NBC, Peacock, and USA Network. Nicolas Cage will play Exotic in a separate project for Amazon.
