April 21, 1951 Bill Barilko of the Toronto Maple Leafs scored the Stanley Cupwinning goal in overtime against the Montréal Canadiens. He died in a plane crash four months later while on a fishing trip. His body wasn’t found until 1962. Coincidentally, the Leafs won the Cup again that year, the first time since Barilko’s famous goal. If you’re a Tragically Hip fan, this probably sounds familiar.
