Setting priorities
Re: One thing the Liberal budget got right — Memorial for the victims of Communism, Sean Speer, April 24
Budgets are all about establishing priorities. Spending $4 million on a monument is an excuse for not getting on with tasks that really matter: supplying clean water to First Nations; making Canada’s armed forces a decent and honourable employer of women; imposing proper safety standards on the nation’s railroads; building pipelines to ease our dependence on foreign oil and foreign-controlled pipelines. Completing any of these tasks $4 million sooner should take precedence over yet another monument that will be paid for by our great grandchildren. Patrick Cowan, Toronto
