Zbigniew Basinski, recognized as the doyen of Canadian metal physics, was born at Wolkowysk, Poland. In 1977, Basinski was the first recipient of the Canadian Metal Physics Medal for outstanding service to metal physics. His work on the mechanics and thermodynamics of plasticity in metals and his contributions to instrumentation and observational techniques earned him national and international acclaim.
