BROCKVILLE MAYOR RESIGNS AFTER BUYING ‘DREAM HOME’

-

The mayor of Brockville has stepped down after moving into his “dream home” outside of the eastern Ontario city. Jason Baker, pictured, said he didn’t realize purchasing the home would disqualify him from serving as mayor, a post he’s held since 2018. The Municipal Act bars non-residents from holding office in a city. Baker, 50, said he bought the house on Charleston Lake in the spring. “I regret that the purchase of my dream home has unknowingly caused this issue and will keep me from finishing some of the work that we all started together. I wish all of you the best of luck in our shared goal of keeping the City of Brockville thriving,” Baker said in a statement Wednesday. The city said council will announce next steps at an upcoming meeting.
