In the early 1990s, brothers and third-generation entrepreneurs Jules and Philippe Legault enlisted a team of experts to help develop a line of super-premium natural pet food that put pet nutrition and well-being above all else.

As long-time pet parents themselves, with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, a track record of science-based innovation and years of experience in the pet product industry, they brought a unique level of both passion and compassion to the project. It paid off.

After refining the formula with help from veterinarians and food scientists, the Legault brothers launched their first products under the Vetdiet brand to customers in Quebec.

Almost 30 years later, Vetdiet has solidified its position among the most trusted lines of pet food products in Quebec, as the brand now enters the Ontario market for the first time.

“We love that Vetdiet combines science and nature, and has a nutritional philosophy that feeding the right food to your pet can make all the difference,” says Scott Arsenault, CEO at Ren’s Pets, a leading Canadian specialty retailer of pet food and supplies.

“With Vetdiet, pet parents know they will be getting super-premium ingredients, backed by health and nutrition experts, for food for your pet’s best life.”

Vetdiet has gained the respect and loyalty of thousands of customers in Quebec with a promise to provide the optimal combination of science and nature for the well-being of pets.

It’s a promise rooted in the latest food science research and guided by a Health and Nutrition Advisory Board that includes veterinarians, expert formulators and doctors of animal nutrition, who develop and approve all Vetdiet products.

“We make sure to always select high-quality ingredients that provide real benefit to the animals we consider to be family members,” says Marie-france Dumont, brand director for Legault Group, the parent company of Vetdiet and Ren’s Pets.

“Having top quality brands like Vetdiet lets us offer customers premium nutritious options to choose from,” added Larissa Wasyliw, vice-president of e-commerce and marketing at Ren’s Pets.

“We really believe that the right pet food is key to a happy, healthy pet.”

Vetdiet’s nutritional philosophy is centred on genuine expertise and guided by three pillars: Lifelong pet health, purposeful design and authentic benefits. Its experts pride themselves on developing balanced formulas adapted to the specific nutritional needs of pets at each life stage.

Vetdiet purposely designs its products with the best natural ingredients, all with a specific nutritional function — including fresh meat (chicken, lamb or fish) as first ingredients, an amazing blend of antioxidants, and zero per cent wheat, corn and soy.

“We create real food that enables our consumers to see authentic benefits on their pet’s health,” the company says in a statement. “These benefits meet the real nutritional needs of pets and are evident in a healthy skin and coat, optimal digestion and energy balance.”

Vetdiet delivers two lines of products. Made in Canada, each line offers a diverse array of dry and wet food geared toward the age and size of various pet breeds.

The wellness line is designed to meet pets’ nutritional needs through every life stage. Backed by science, it promotes optimal health through complete and balanced natural nutrition.

Meanwhile, the care line is designed to meet pets’ specific needs. Dry food available for dogs is geared toward skin and stomach health, dental health, weight control and mobility. For cats, dry food in the care line addresses skin and stomach health, hairball control, dental health and weight control.

As of April, Vetdiet products are carried at 40 Ren’s Pets locations in Ontario and the Maritimes, and people across Canada can order online for home delivery. The products will also continue to be carried at Mondou stores in Quebec along with select outlets in the United States.

Legault Group, a vertically integrated, family-owned business, is also the parent company of Mondou.

“For almost 30 years, we’ve been devoted to crafting wholesome pet foods that bring out all the goodness of nature,” the company says in a statement. “With their combined knowledge, our experts are continually dedicated to finding the most beneficial and healthy ingredients for your pet’s well-being.”
