Innovative web platform simplifies the procurement of safety eyewear for Canadian companies

- MARK STACHIEW www.securovision.com.

Ask any manager if they want to save time and money and they’ll jump at the opportunity, which is why Securo Vision built a turnkey management process for Canadian companies that need to equip their employees with prescription and non-prescription safety glasses.

In the past, workers would go to an optician for their safety eyewear then file paperwork with their managers who would spend unproductive time issuing refund cheques. To simplify that process, Securo Vision built a simple and efficient online platform that reflects products carefully chosen by the company.

“Once a company registers its employees on our platform, they can go to one of approximately 800 partner clinics that serve us across Canada,” said Securo Vision’s general manager Jonathan Marcil. “We directly invoice the company at the end of the month and the company can track all the employees on the platform and see if they all have their safety glasses.”

Normally, employees with prescription safety glasses need to replace them every two years and if a company has a lot of employees, that can add up to a lot of paperwork and added expenses if

they’re not using a system like Securo Vision’s, said Marcil.

He said that as many as 98 per cent of their customers use the web portal and many find it a huge advantage over Securo Vision’s competitors.

Based in Longueuil, Quebec on Montreal’s South Shore, Securo Vision has been providing a wide range of safety eyewear for industries across the country for more than 45 years. Marcil added that their eyewear is cut, mounted and expertly assembled under the supervision of specialized opticians, ensuring quality and compliance with the highest safety standards set by the Canadian CSA.

As part of the testing process, they bombard their

glasses and frames with metal balls at certain velocities from specific distances in order to confirm that they meet all CSA standards.

Because Securo Vision serves a wide variety of industries across the country including manufacturing, mining, automotive, food prep, laboratories and hospitals, the company provides eyewear to protect from all manner of hazards whether they be mechanical, chemical, heat or light. They even offer blue-light protection for white-collar workers who spend long hours in front of computer screens.

Since every person’s vision is different, Securo Vision offers unifocal, bifocal and progressive lenses to suit every situation and because they are precisely manufactured to the nearest nanometer with computer-controlled machinery the company’s lenses provide greater image clarity, accuracy and field of vision than conventionally made lenses.

They also offer high-definition lenses which are based on an innovative computing technology that changes how a prescription is positioned on the lens providing quick adaptation and a clear peripheral vision.

To enhance their lenses further, Securo Vision offers a range of coatings such as anti-glare and scratch-resistance, that increase the durability

and longevity of their glasses as well as improve the quality and comfort of the user’s vision.

About 10 years ago, Securo Vision began designing its own frames for its safety eyewear and today, those designs account for between 80 and 90 per cent of their sales. While aesthetics play a role in their designs, Marcil said that much of what they offer is based on their clients’ needs.

“Over the years we’ve obviously seen what the best sellers were and what was missing from certain collections,” said Marcil. “When certain companies need something very specific, whether it’s something closer to the face or a bigger frame, we try to cater as much as possible to their needs, so we listen to the feedback that we get from them through the clinic partners to fill in the gaps that we have in our collection.”

Their frames have a oneyear warranty from defects and their prescription lenses include a three-month warranty of adaptation which lets a worker try the glasses for a period of time and bring them back in case adjustments need to be made.

One of the more gratifying things for the staff at Securo Vision is when they hear back from someone who has had their vision saved by one of their products. “Customers send us pictures of themselves after an accident to say ‘my pair of safety glasses saved my eyes. The frame is broken, but the glasses did their job.’ ”
