‘Interest was steady throughout the listing period, which was surprising as we listed it three weeks before Christmas. Even during the holidays showings were still happening,” says listing agent Reenie Banks. “We relisted the home the first week of January (changing the price from $925,000 to $890,000) and showings just skyrocketed. We sold firm within two days.

“This smaller house is the perfect starter home, so it appealed to anyone wanting a condo alternative,” she says. “We had singles, couples and young families all interested in taking a look.”

The 977-square-foot residence was built in 1920. The sellers had recently redone the second-floor bathroom.

Banks says, “I love the living room. It’s not a large space but it’s cosy and has just the right amount of seating. “I also love the front porch and can imagine the new owners sitting out there enjoying their coffee and having chats with the neighbours as they walk by.”

The 16x100-foot property has a private driveway with parking for two cars, “a huge hit as it’s not so common to find in the city, especially in this price range,” she says.

“This house is really special as it is detached and has a great backyard and large deck. The private drive and parking are the icing on the cake. Getting all this for under $1 million in the city made it a great buy.”

The neighbourhood really appeals to young families and couples but is also cherished by longtime residents, who have raised their families there, Banks says.

The property is close to the subway, buses, Taylor Creek Park and Stan Wadlow Park. Banks says, “You can enjoy trails, a playground, a pool, a skating rink, a skateboard park and an off-leash dog park all at the end of your street.

“Once an area that wasn’t that desirable is now becoming quite popular with young families moving in, renovating or rebuilding. I find that many are moving from their smaller homes in the area to a bigger home just down the street or a couple blocks over.

“The people who live in the neighbourhood really love living there and don’t want to leave.”
