THENAULT FIRST IN WOMEN’S WORLD CUP AERIALS

-

Canadian freestyle skier Marion Thenault earned World Cup gold in women’s aerials on Sunday at Almaty, Kazakhstan. The Sherbrooke, Que., native scored 94.11 to top the podium.

Australia’s Danielle Scott (87.25) and China’s Kong Fanyu (82.21) placed second and third, respectively. It was the third World Cup medal of the season for Thenault.

The 23-year-old took bronze in Lac-beauport, Que., on Feb. 10 and gold in Finland on Dec. 3.

Thenault was a bronze medallist at the 2022 Beijing Olympics in mixed team aerials.

A person familiar with negotiations says Jacksonville have agreed to acquire New England quarterback Mac Jones for a sixth-round pick in next month’s NFL draft. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Sunday because the trade cannot become official until the new league year begins Wednesday and after Jones passes a physical.

The move brings Jones home — he was born and raised in Jacksonville — and provides competition behind starter Trevor Lawrence.

Jones, the 15th overall pick in the 2021 draft, flamed out spectacularly last season, going 2-9 in 11 starts in 2023, throwing for 2,120 yards with 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Liverpool fought back to draw 1-1 with Manchester City on Sunday in the last Premier League clash between Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola before the German coach steps down at the end of the season.

Alexis Mac Allister struck a 50th-minute penalty to cancel out John Stones’ first-half strike at Anfield.

The draw kept secondplace Liverpool one point ahead of defending champion City in third and behind leader Arsenal on goal difference. Arsenal moved to the top after a 2-1 win against Brentford on Saturday.

There has been little to separate Klopp and Guardiola in one of English soccer’s most enduring rivalries and that theme continued in this latest thrilling encounter.

Guardiola was looking to secure only his second win against Klopp at Anfield.

Lecce coach Roberto D’aversa appeared to head butt Hellas Verona striker Thomas Henry following a heated matchup between two teams just above the relegation zone in Serie A on Sunday.

Henry was arguing with Lecce defender Marin Pongracic after the final whistle when D’aversa went over to intervene and instead ended up knocking Henry over with an apparent head butt directly in front of one of the match officials.

“I’ve already apologized to Verona’s management,” D’aversa said. “As a coach and father of three kids, I want to apologize for what happened.”

While replays appeared to show it was indeed a head butt, D’aversa later said on Instagram it wasn’t.

“I was wrong and I apologize,” D’aversa said in his social media post.
