RECEIVER SNAGS NEW DEAL WITH RIDERS

-

The Saskatchewan Roughriders signed Canadian receiver Samuel Emilus to a one-year contract extension Monday.

The deal keeps Emilus with the Riders through the 2025 season.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Montreal native registered 70 catches for 1,097 yards and six TDS last season, just his second in the CFL. Saskatchewan

selected Emilus, 26, in the first round, No. 7 overall, in the 2022 CFL draft.

Emilus became the fastest Canadian in team history to register a 1,000-yard season — Hall of Famer Ray Elgaard did so in his third campaign.

Catcher Eric Haase cleared waivers and is heading to

the Milwaukee Brewers’ triple-a affiliate in Nashville. The 31-year-old Haase was designated for assignment Thursday.

Although Haase batted .395 with a .465 on-base percentage, five homers and 14 RBIS in 18 Cactus League games, he was unable to make the Brewers’ season-opening roster. Haase signed with the Brewers in December after hitting .201 with four homers and 26 RBIS in 89 games with Detroit and Cleveland last year.

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung fractured his right wrist on a strange strike in the ninth inning of Monday’s 9-3 win over Tampa Bay. Jung was hit by a Phil Maton pitch while swinging and was replaced by Josh Smith to finish the plate appearance.

Carson Wentz has agreed to a one-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. Wentz, the No. 2 overall pick in 2016, joins his fifth team in five years to back up threetime Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes. Wentz was 47-45-1 as a starter in eight seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, Washington Commanders and L.A. Rams.
