Sweeney Canada’s GM for 4 Nations

-

Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney has been named Canada’s GM for the inaugural NHL 4 Nations Face-off tournament.

Hockey Canada announced its management team for the February 2025 tournament Friday. The Dallas Stars’ Jim Nill was named associate GM for the event, and both Sweeney and Nill were named assistant GMS on Doug Armstrong’s staff for Canada’s 2026 men’s Olympic team.

Sweeney is in his ninth season as GM of the Bruins. He won the Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award in 2018-19 and led the team to its eighth consecutive playoff appearance this season.

Nill is in his 11th season leading the front office in Dallas. He won NHL GM of the year in 2022-23 and led the team to the Stanley Cup Final in 2020.

The 4 Nations Face-off is a new international event that will feature NHL players from Canada, Finland, Sweden and the U.S. Canada’s coaching staff and first six players are expected to be announced in June.

Wrexham can secure another Hollywood ending on Saturday.

The Welsh team co-owned by actor Ryan Reynolds is on the verge of consecutive promotions — this time to the third tier of English soccer, two steps away from the Premier League.

Wrexham can guarantee promotion Saturday if it beats Forest Green at the Racecourse Ground and if both MK Dons and Barrow fail to win.

With three games remaining, Wrexham is second in League Two, four points behind Stockport. Reynolds and fellow actor Rob Mcelhenney bought the littleknown club for US$2.5 million in 2021.

Last season, they clinched the National League title to get back into the English Football League — the three divisions below the Premier League — for the first time in 15 years.
