The buyer purchased the home with her mother, who had lost her husband in the fall, says listing agent Stephanie Cluett-eid. “Not wanting to leave her mother alone is what inspired the search and they decided to look for a home that had the possibility of adding an in-law suite that wouldn’t be in the basement. This home caught their eye being a Cape Cod/ character home as the mother had raised her kids in a farmhouse on Midland Avenue in Scarborough. It was important to find a nice lifestyle neighbourhood.”

Cluett-eid says the property attracted a variety of buyers, many coming from neighbourhoods including The Beach, Leslieville and Yonge and Eglinton “who were seeking more bang for their buck, a larger home with space, a larger lot and parking. Many saw this house as a good long-term home that would be amazing after some alterations.”

The best interior feature is the sunken family room, “by far my (and the sellers’) favourite room,” she says. “It has a high ceiling, windows offering up lots of natural light and green views, a skylight to see the stars and a gas fireplace – everything combined made this the most lived-in room.”

The home, on a 125 by 62-foot irregular lot, was built in 1948 and multiple additions were completed in 1990 and 1996. The kitchen and lower level are the most recent renovations.

A fireplace in the living room, a walkout to the deck and yard from the dining room, a cathedral ceiling in the family room and a mainfloor laundry room with a walkout to a porch are highlights.

The 21 by 10-ft primary bedroom has a sitting area, a four-piece ensuite bathroom and a walk-in closet. A loftstyle bedroom is on the third floor.

The 2.5-car garage offers bonus space for possible conversion to an in-law suite.

The Cape Cod style, with its covered veranda, “makes this home iconic in the neighbourhood, evoking all the charm and character that this neighbourhood was built upon,” Cluett-eid says.

Cliffcrest is “a hidden gem that most don’t discover until someone they know buys here. Once they visit, they want to move here.”
