Men’s shot put, qualifying, 5 a.m. ET, final, 3:30 p.m. ET. Dylan Armstrong came up less than a centimetre short of a medal in Beijing, but gets his shot at redemption in the opening day of athletics on Friday. The 31-year-old, Kamloops, B.C., native is considered one of Canada’s best medal hopes in London. Armstrong has been battling back from an elbow injury that kept him out of the world indoor championships final, but managed to record the eighth-best throw in the world this year at 21.50 metres. However, the field is deep, with reigning world champion David Storl of Germany, defending Olympic gold medalist Tomasz Majewski of Poland and the American triumvirate of Christian Cantwell, Reese Hoffa and Ryan Whiting.
