Alex Galchenyuk and Brendan Gallagher are staying with the Montreal Canadiens. The rookies got the news before practice on Monday from head coach Michel Therrien, who told them they should move out of their hotel and find somewhere to live. The 18-year-old Galchenyuk said he would stay with his mother and sister, while Gallagher is moving in with veteran defenceman Josh Gorges and his fiancée. “It’s really important that our young players are looked after on the ice and it’s crucial they are looked after away from the ice,” Therrien said. “Alex living with his family is excellent for us because we don’t want to leave a young player alone in a city like Montreal where there are a lot of distractions. It’s the same for Gallagher. Even if he’s 20, it’s his first season as a pro and we also want him well supported.” Defence and discipline are the foundation on which the Winnipeg Jets are trying to build a strong second season and, for the most part, it seems to be working. Just five games in, they have already collected seven points in the standings, a better start than last season when they earned just three in their first six games. “I’m a little bit reluctant to put too much into the five games,” coach Claude Noel said Monday, before departing for a game Tuesday night in Montreal. “I like what I see. We all like what we see in the fact that we’ve managed this thing and now we’re 3-1-1 (but) let’s keep this in perspective.” The Dallas Stars have placed forward Derek Roy on injured reserve with a groin injury, clearing a roster spot for the expected debut of Jamie Benn on Monday night at Columbus. Roy, who was acquired from Buffalo in a trade that sent Steve Ott to the Sabres, was hurt Thursday against Chicago. Benn and the Stars agreed on a five-year, US $26.25-million contract the same night Roy got hurt.
