ON THIS DAY
Apr. 29, 1628 Guillaume Couillard de Lespinay was reportedly the first European to use a plow in Canada. Couillard arrived in Quebec in 1613 and married the daughter of a fellow colonist in 1621, becoming one of the first to settle permanently in the area. The site of his homestead is now the courtyard of the Seminary of Quebec, where there is absolutely no cultivation allowed.
