The woman who runs CBC’s English-language services has quit to head up Twitter Inc.’s newly announced Canadian branch. Kirstine Stewart, pictured, who resigned Monday as CBC’s vice-president, becomes the managing director and first employee of Twitter Canada. Ms. Stewart said that while some people might view her career change as a shift from traditional media to new media, she thinks the lines between the two are blurring. “When you take a step back and you look at those companies that have been really successful, they understand that actually it’s all one space,” she said. “Twitter has been a great complement to broadcasters, it’s been a great complement to all kinds of partners and content creators and what will be the next step is how can we deepen that relationship here in Canada.” The San Francisco-based social networking giant revealed plans to open a new office in Toronto. Ac- cording to the Twitter website, the company is now hiring for two positions in Toronto: account executive and account manager. One of her first duties will be to identify a new office space for Twitter Canada. However, Ms. Stewart says this office will be about more than just sales; she envisions Twitter’s Canadian outpost to be more of a partnership office, where the company can work with advertisers, content producers and brands on creating new experiences for users.
