Sam Taylor-Wood, the director of 2009 John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy has been tapped to direct the film adaptation of E.L. James’ wildly successful book 50 Shades
of Grey. Wood, also known as Sam Taylor-Johnson, began her career in the 1990s as an art photographer. And while Nowhere Boy is her only feature-film directorial effort, she has also directed several short films, as well as the music video for R.E.M.’s Uberlin. James’ 50 Shades novel — and its sequels Fifty Shades Darker, and Fifty Shades Freed — chart the romantic relationship of narrator Anastasia Steele and her lover Christian Grey. The novels are infamous for their eroticism and exploration of BDSM themes. No actors have yet been confirmed to star in the film adaptation, which was announced in early 2012, though several stars — including James Franco and Chace Crawford for Grey and Jennifer Love Hewitt and Aubrey Plaza as Steele — have expressed interest. Apologies to those who were really into the name Kaidence Donda: According to Hollywood gossip site TMZ, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have joined a proud celebrity tradition of giving ridiculous names to children in opting to call their first child North. That, of course, makes the child’s full name North West. No word yet as to whether Kim and Kanye have opted for South-East as a middle name but, really, anything is possible. (Also, that would be kind of awesome.) The TMZ report, which cites baby North’s CedarsSinai birth certificate, contradicts headlines earlier this week claiming the couple had named the baby girl Kaidence Donda. The couple, who incidentally live in the southwest United States, were rumoured to be considering North as a name for their baby as early as April of this year. Weekend Post
