Hawaii's Kilauea volcano erupts

The Kilauea volcano on Hawaii's Big Island erupted on Sunday night, followed by an earthquake that struck at the volcano's south flank. The Hawaiian Volcano Observator­y recorded an earthquake of magnitude 4.4 located beneath Kilauea's south flank at 10:36 p.m. local time. The Hawaii county Civil Defense Agency

asked residents to stay indoors to avoid ash fallout.
