WONDER WOMAN SHAT TERS RECORDS

-

The Wonder Woman sequel has shattered global records for COVID-era films. Wonder Woman 1984, from director Patty Jenkins, has made $85 million from its Christmas week release. (All figures in U.S. dollars.) Wonder Woman 1984 opened in the U.S. with $16.7 million at theatres over the weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday, smashing Tenet's $10 million opening earlier this year. Many also opted to watch Wonder Woman 1984 through HBO Max in the U.S. — the studio said nearly half of the platform's retail subscribers watched the film on Friday. In Canada, Wonder Woman 1984 also was available on demand, but not in theatres. As a result, a third Wonder Woman film is in the works, with Jenkins and star Gal Gadot, shown, set to return. Nothing is known yet about the final part of the trilogy. Gadot's Wonder Woman will be seen next in director Zack Snyder's four-part version of Justice League, due on HBO Max in 2021.
