TWO WORKERS KILLED AT SUNCOR MINE NEAR FORT MCMURRAY
Two workers were killed when a bulldozer hit a light vehicle at Suncor's Fort Hills oilsands site north of Fort McMurray on Monday. A statement Tuesday from Suncor says two Clearstream employees were killed when the dozer hit the light vehicle truck at the site around 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The circumstances leading up to the deaths are still being investigated and operations at the oilsands mine have paused. Alberta Occupational Health and Safety has been notified, while the company is co-operating with Wood Buffalo RCMP and other authorities. A Suncor spokesperson told CBC.ca the company officials are deeply saddened. She said grief counselling is being offered to all employees. The Fort Hills operation, an open-pit truck and shovel mine, is one of the largest in the Wood Buffalo region.
