TWO WORKERS KILLED AT SUNCOR MINE NEAR FORT MCMURRAY

Two workers were killed when a bulldozer hit a light vehicle at Suncor's Fort Hills oilsands site north of Fort McMurray on Monday. A statement Tuesday from Suncor says two Clearstrea­m employees were killed when the dozer hit the light vehicle truck at the site around 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The circumstan­ces leading up to the deaths are still being investigat­ed and operations at the oilsands mine have paused. Alberta Occupation­al Health and Safety has been notified, while the company is co-operating with Wood Buffalo RCMP and other authoritie­s. A Suncor spokespers­on told CBC.ca the company officials are deeply saddened. She said grief counsellin­g is being offered to all employees. The Fort Hills operation, an open-pit truck and shovel mine, is one of the largest in the Wood Buffalo region.
