REPUBLICAN SENATOR TO CONTEST BIDEN'S ELECTION VICTORY
A Republican senator has said he will object next week when Congress convenes to certify the electoral college vote, in a doomed attempt to upend Joe Biden's victory. Senator Josh Hawley, shown, of Missouri broke with Mitch McConnell, the Senate majority leader, and other prominent Republicans in declaring he would contest the process on Jan. 6, following calls to do so from Donald Trump. The challenge will prompt a floor debate and force senators to go on the record as to whether they believe there were voting irregularities in November's presidential election. Trump will inevitably lose the vote, as Democrats control the House of Representatives and a number of Senate Republicans have publicly recognized Biden's victory.
