PBS MOVE HAS PARENTS SAYING YIPPEE CAILLOU
PBS Kids has cancelled Caillou, ending the Canadian kids' show after more than two decades on the air. The U.S. public broadcaster announced the news on Twitter, along with tips to help kids cope, but many parents cheered the cancellation. “Caillou getting cancelled is the start to 2021 I needed,” wrote one Twitter user. “That bald headed little terror can no longer brainwash kids into being worse.” For years, parents have complained about Caillou, the fouryear-old boy at the centre of the show, and behaviour they called whiny and mean. The show, which was based on Hélène Desputeaux's children's book series, initially aired in French on Canadian broadcaster Télétoon in 1997. It also aired on the English version of that network as well as Treehouse, and debuted on the U.S. Public Broadcasting System in 2000. It ran for five seasons there before going into syndication.
