CPPIB already political
Re: Re-politicizing CPP would be a disaster, Diane Francis, Jan. 5
I share Ms. Francis' disdain for politicizing the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. However the politicization has already occurred and Bill C-231 is a reaction to it rather than a cause.
Crestone Peak Resources, a Colorado-based company wholly owned by the
CPPIB, donated more than $600,000 to support Republican candidates in the 2018 and 2020 U.S. elections and industry lobbyists. Where was the outcry from Ms. Francis and Pierre Poilievre?
The politicization continues as Mark Machin, CPPIB CEO, has been widely quoted urging governments to sell off public infrastructure assets. Privatization whether you support it or not is clearly a political position.
CPPIB clearly is political already. Bill C-231 might get some of the politics out of it. John Bennett, Friends of the Earth Canada
