DEPORTATION DENIED OVER POLLUTION
A Bangladeshi asthmatic man has been given the right to stay in France because of the risk to his health from pollution in his home country, in what is believed to be a legal first.
The 40-year-old has lived in Toulouse since 2011, after fleeing persecution from his home, near Dhaka. Bangladesh was declared the worst country in the world for fine particulate pollution in 2019.
The man's asthma is so severe that he requires regular medication. The appeals court in Bordeaux reversed an earlier expulsion order.
