ONTARIO POLICE CAN'T RANDOMLY STOP OVER LOCKDOWN ORDER

-

Police do not have the authority to randomly stop residents on Ontario streets to ensure stay-at-home compliance. The measure means Ontarians can venture out only for essential purposes such as health care, food and exercise. Residents travelling to work are not required to have proof from their boss that they are doing so. Toronto’s police officers can ticket anyone for up to $750 — including supervisors, workers and customers — who appear to be breaching business rules on closure or customer limits. Inspectors will also be able to temporarily close a premise and disperse groups of more than five people.
