BLUE JAYS SIGN RELIEVER YATES

-

The Toronto Blue Jays have added another arm as spring training for the 2021 season nears. According to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, the Jays have signed right-hander Kirby Yates. Terms were not immediately released. As first reported by TSN's Scott Mitchell, Yates was at the team's Florida base in Dunedin on Tuesday to meet with Jays officials. The Yates development comes a day after the team reached agreement with another right-hander, Tyler Chatwood, who figures to add bullpen depth but could challenge for a role in the rotation. In 2019, Yates had a hefty 41 saves and a skimpy 1.19 ERA for the San Diego Padres. Yates, 33, had surgery to remove bone chips on his elbow last year. Elsewhere, the baseball world was saddened by news that Hall of Fame pitcher Don Sutton died at age 75. He played 16 of 23 MLB seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
