ON THIS DAY
January 22, 1992
Neurologist and clinical science researcher specializing in the nervous system, Dr. Roberta Bondar blasted into space aboard the U.S. space shuttle Discovery, the second Canadian to travel to space. At the time of selection for the Canadian space program in 1983, Bondar’s particular interest in the nervous system and the inner ear balancing system, especially as it related to the functioning of the eye, had immediate relevance to experiments being planned for the first Canadian space flight.
