MAJOR AND CHAMP MARK RETURN OF PETS TO WHITE HOUSE
The arrival of Major and Champ Biden at the White House marks the return of a long-standing tradition. Donald Trump was the first president since Andrew Johnson in the 1860s not to share the home with a dog or cat — or even a raccoon, like the one kept by Calvin Coolidge in the 1920s. Major, a German shepherd, will be the first rescue dog to live in the White House. The Bidens adopted him in 2018. Champ, also a German shepherd, joined the family in 2008. “From shelter pup at the Delaware Humane Association to First Dog at the White House, Major Biden is barking proof that every dog can live the American dream,” said the group, which hosted an online “indoguration” fundraiser on Jan. 17. Dr. Jill Biden has hinted they may be joined by a cat.
