Norman Lear will receive the Carol Burnett Award at the Golden Globe Awards next month. The TV writer and producer will be the third recipient — Burnett herself got the award in 2019, and Ellen DeGeneres took it last year. It's meant to honour those who have made outstanding contributions to television, on or off the screen. “(Lear's) progressive approach addressing controversial topics through humour prompted a cultural shift that allowed social and political issues to be reflected in television,” said Ali Sar, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which organizes the Golden Globes. Lear, 98, shown, is the creative force behind such shows as All in the Family, Sanford and Son, The Jeffersons, Good Times, Maude and One Day at a Time — as well as its 2017 remake. The Globes will air Feb. 28 on NBC, with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as cohosts.
