NEW ZEALAND UPDATES TEACHING OF MAORIS, BRITISH COLONIZATION
New Zealand will teach a new national history syllabus about its Indigenous Maori people and its colonization by Britain. Schools now decide for themselves how it is taught, but this often glosses over atrocities against the Maori, who currently make up 15 per cent of the population. They face higher unemployment, lower wages and worse health outcomes than non-Maori New Zealanders. The course is due to be implemented next year.
