The great writer George Will said it best: Interviewed for Ken Burns' Baseball in the early '90s, he opined that football combined the two worst aspects of American society: violence and committee meetings. Wonderful.

There are many more horrible dimensions to presentday America, but the stultifying miasma of the NFL ranks below green ham and rope burn to this observer.
