UN INTERCEDES FOR `HOSTAGE' PRINCESS
The United Nations human rights body said Wednesday it would question the United Arab Emirates about claims by the daughter of Dubai's ruler that she was being “held hostage” since trying to escape the country in 2018.
Video emerged on Tuesday of Princess Latifa, pictured, saying she had been held against her will by her family since the yacht she was trying to reach India on was intercepted by Indian and Emirati commandos.
In undated videos reportedly filmed over several months about a year after her return to Dubai, the princess, 35, said she feared for her life. Her friends told BBC Panorama they had received no word from her since she stopped responding to text messages six months ago.
The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said it would “raise these new developments with the U.A.E.”
