ON THIS DAY
February 18, 2014 – Author Mavis Gallant died in Paris. Her novels and short stories often dealt with expatriates displaced from their cultural milieu through choice or circumstance—something Gallant knew a bit about, living most of her life in Europe. A companion of the Order of Canada and a winner of the Governor General’s Literary Award, Gallant is also the only English-language author to receive Québec’s Prix Athanese-David.
