Wake up to a better breakfast, powered by plants

- KATHRYN BOOTHBY

Plant-based proteins are on the rise in Canada. Since 2019, the industry has grown by a whopping 54 per cent, and over half of Canadians say they will increase their consumption of plantbased items over the next 12 months. This rise in curiosity and uptake of plantbased options indicates a clear appetite for more diverse menu options.

Enter Beyond Meat. The pioneer of plant-based protein and creator of the iconic Beyond Burger is adding

to their repertoire with the introduction of a new breakfast menu item in Canadian retail: Beyond Breakfast Sausage Links.

“As a global category leader, Beyond Meat is continuously looking for ways to increase its portfolio of delicious, nutritious and sustainable plant-based proteins in Canada, including breaking into new occasions like at-home breakfast,” says Heena Verma, Marketing Director for Beyond Meat in Canada.

By introducing plantbased options into their

diet, more Canadians are doing their part to create change and tackle global challenges. “We believe that through small, everyday choices — like swapping the protein at the centre of the plate – everyone has the ability to make a meaningful im-pact on some of the most pressing issues our world faces today: human health, climate change, constraints on our natural resources and animal welfare,” says Verma.

Over the past 18 months, Canadians have spent more time at home and allowed themselves more time for breakfast, with nearly 90 per cent eating breakfast at home. At the same time, 40 per cent of Canadians are following a more “flexitarian” diet. In other words, they are choosing to incorporate plant-based protein, along with traditional animal-based meat choices, for a more balanced diet.

Beyond Breakfast Sausage Links are helping fill a void in plant-based breakfast options. Available in all major retailers across the country, including Loblaws, Sobeys and Metro, this new introduction is the brand's first entry into the Canadian breakfast retail category.

BEYOND BREAKFAST SAUSAGE LINKS ARE HELPING FILL A VOID IN PLANT-BASED BREAKFAST OPTIONS

Sausage Links are a better-for-you protein option. Each serving contains 12 grams of protein and are made from simple, plant-based ingredients, like peas and rice. They contain zero GMOs, antibiotics, hormones or cholesterol and 35 per cent less sodium than the leading brand of pork sausage, making them a nutritious option

for your breakfast plate. “Beyond Breakfast Sausage Links offer the same irresistibly savoury taste and juicy texture of traditional breakfast sausages but are an easy, better-for-you swap that go from pan to plate in less than 10 minutes,” says Verma.

If that were not enough, consider the benefits of a morning boost — powered by plants. According to a recent survey, about onethird of Canadians admit to not getting enough sleep.

The same number believe a well-balanced breakfast can improve how they feel throughout the day. Beyond

Breakfast Sausage Links can help bridge the gap between lack of sleep and fuel for the coming day.

With eight links per pack, there are plenty to go around for family and friends. Add them as a tasty side to scrambled eggs or a stack of pancakes, toss them in a breakfast burrito, or slice them into an omelette, strava or breakfast casserole.

Plus, you can enjoy delicious plant-based protein from Beyond Meat any meal of the day with a wide variety of better-for-you options that taste just as great as traditional animal protein. Like Beyond Sausage pesto pizza or a Beyond Burger piled high with your favourite toppings. Or how about swapping in Beyond Beef in your favourite soup, stew or casserole? The options are as broad as the imagination.

Can't wait to get your hands on a better breakfast? Beyond Breakfast Sausage Links can be found in the fresh meat section, next to traditional pork breakfast options.
