CANADIAN ENERGY SECTOR READY TO SUPPORT GLOBAL MARKETS

-

Dear Prime Minister Trudeau,

We, the undersigned, are writing to you today to express our commitment to global energy markets and raise concerns regarding your government’s treatment of Canadian energy producers. We strongly urge you to end your government’s suppression of our energy industry.

The Canadian energy sector has long advocated for investments into the infrastructure needed to bring our natural gas to global markets – offering ethical, best in the world energy to the world. Through this approach, Canada would reduce global reliance on energy produced by hostile and unethical actors.

While we remain well-positioned to supply Europe’s energy needs, years of government interference and politicized restrictions have prevented our sector from building the infrastructure needed to export large volumes of LNG. The impact on investor confidence of anti oil and gas government policy including expropriations cannot be underestimated.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s recently concluded visit highlighted Europe’s desire for increased Canadian energy exports. Canada has ample natural gas resources in many regions of this country. We have an enormous advantage with closer shipping routes to Northern Europe than international competition. In addition, our cooler climate and ample hydropower make Canadian LNG the lowest emissions in the world.

If Canada has no business case for LNG exports to Europe it is hard to imagine how any country would. We confirm to you as industry leaders we are ready and willing to help.

We are pleased to hear you say you would be willing to adjust regulations as Germany did to promote faster approval of energy infrastructure projects.

We welcome your response and strongly urge you to demonstrate your commitment to global energy security and our international partners through action.

Sincerely,

101 Canadian Energy Leaders
