Re: Sombre day of remembrance; and At least seven killed in attack at synagogue, both Jan. 28

As I gazed upon the photo of Holocaust survivor Agnes Klein, dressed warmly in a hat, puffy coat, gloves and boots on a cold and snowy day, sitting between Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, I was reminded of my own mother of blessed memory who was marched to a forced labour camp with her mother and little brother, also on a cold snowy day. They were dressed in threadbare rags and wooden clogs. When her mother tripped or was too chilled to go on, the Nazi guard came and shot her to death. My mother could do nothing more than grab her brother's little hand and keep going, fearing the same fate as her mother's. May those who perished never be forgotten and may those who survived live in comfort and well-being.

Golda Meir famously said, “We can forgive the Arabs for killing our children. We cannot forgive them for forcing us to kill their children . ... A leader who doesn't hesitate before he sends his nation into battle is not fit to be a leader.”

When the Israeli Defense Forces send troops into Jenin it's because there is very real and imminent threat against its citizens. They will do everything possible to minimize loss of life on both sides.

When Arabs send terrorists and rockets into Israeli cities their sole purpose is to murder innocent civilians. There is no moral equivalent.

Make no mistake. This is not about which way the current government is leaning. It's about Arabs wanting to kill every Jew from the river to the sea.

How grotesque that on Holocaust Remembrance Day 2023 they are still trying to exterminate us, only this time in our own homeland. Never again!
