(Nina Conti, UK). 61 minutes. Subtitled. Rating: When disillusioned UK comedian/ventriloquist Nina Conti discovers that her mentor, legendary theatre renaissance man Ken Campbell, has died and bequeathed her his collection of dummies, she travels to a U. S. ventriloquist convention and museum, her menagerie of odd puppets trailing after her.

There’s a slapdash, contrived feel to the set- up, which basically consists of Conti setting up the camera to show herself (and her dummies) arguing back and forth. There’s lots of humour, but just as many painful insights into shyness and creativity.

It makes a terrific showcase for Conti’s talents, as well as those oddball characters (both human and puppet) she meets at the convention. Apr 29, 7 pm, Cumberland 2; May 1, 11 am, ROM Theatre; May 4, 1: 30 pm, Cumberland 2.
