STARTING FROM SCRATCH and more, at Virgin Mobile Mod Club (722 College), Wednesday (November 6), doors 9 pm, $10. redbullthre3style. com. Philadelphia DJ legend Jazzy Jeff is still best known as the one-time partner of actor Will Smith – then rapping under the moniker Fresh Prince. Jeff went on to make regular cameo appearances on Smith’s 90s breakthrough TV show.

Instead of chasing Hollywood glitz, Jeff kept his focus squarely on music. He’s remixed everyone from Peter Bjorn and John to the Tempta- tions. He’s produced rappers like Mac Miller and Eminem. You can also hear him scratching on songs by the Roots, Talib Kweli and Slum Village. He’s even been turned into a playable character in the DJ Hero video game.

But he’s most loved for his versatile DJ sets. He can cut and scratch hip-hop with the best and can also take you on a wild history lesson of classic funk and rare breakbeats. Book him for a house music event and he’ll dive into the deep end, smoothly mixing soulful dance floor anthems for hours.

Hardcore fans will want to check out the afternoon panel and Q& A with the DJ at the Thompson Hotel (550 Wellington West), Wednesday (November 6) at 4 pm.
