In defence of Mark Saunders

Re Saunders’s Schoolyard Bullying by Alok Mukherjee (NOW, June 22-28). I was a minor niner when I went to Milton District High School when older kids treated younger ones and anyone different from them like shit. Mark Saunders, if I remember correctly, was two or three grades ahead of me in a 99-per cent white school. He might have been school president at the time, but he was basically the only older kid to treat all with respect.

I was shocked when I found out he was the chief of police. But it would be pretty damn hard to find a better person for the job. Everyone at Milton saw it. He’s like a cop version of Jack Layton. Ian Jackson Toronto
