Friday to Sunday (October 12-14) at the Bentway
Rising water levels are a global issue that touched Toronto in dramatic fashion last year after heavy rains caused months of flooding on the Toronto Islands and along the shoreline. This weekend, a virtual flood will submerge the Bentway thanks to Dutch designer Daan Roosegaarde. Using high-density LED lights, software, lenses and steam, he will simulate undulating waves to draw attention to climate change. The installation has toured 10 cities, including Amsterdam (pictured) and Paris, but the Toronto edition will feature complementary local programming, including water ambassadors who will answer questions about the city’s waterways and environmental threats facing Lake Ontario. 7 to 11 pm. Free. Under the Gardiner Expressway, near Fort York. thebentway.ca/waterlicht.
